 1989 MERCEDES-BENZ 560SL ROADSTER - CABERNET w/ FACTORY HARDTOP

 THIS FINAL MODEL IS THE MOST DESIRABLE   OF THE ALL THE '107' BODIED "SL" MERCEDES-BENZ CONVERTIBLES FOR IT IS CONSIDERED THE LAST AND THE BEST OF THE BREED.  1989 IS THE VERY LAST OF THIS BODY-STYLE CULMINATING AN INCREDIBLE 20 YEAR RUN FOR MERCEDES-BENZ. IT WAS A CLASSIC  WHEN 'NEW' AND IT WILL ALWAYS BE A FAVORED CLASSIC   FOR ALL TIME.   THE STORY: 

THE R-107 BODY STYLE HAD THE LARGEST AND LONGEST PRODUCTION RUN OF ANY SINGLE SL BODY TYPE IN MERCEDES-BENZ HISTORY. IT EXPERIENCED AND SURVIVED AN AMAZING 500% PRICE INCREASE FROM IT'S INCEPTION IN JUNE OF 1985 TO IT'S CULMINATION IN JUNE OF 1989. THE FIRST SL COST $10,540 AND THE LAST CARRIED A LIST PRICE OF $64,230. MANY DEALERS MARKED THEM UP DUE TO THE UNAVAILABILITY EVEN HIGHER.

THE 560SL BROKE MANY RECORDS. IT WAS THE FIRST 2- PASSENGER AUTOMOBILE TO SELL 200% ABOVE THE PRICE OF THE CADILLAC AND IT SURVIVED THE SLUMP OF THE U.S. DOLLAR EVEN DURING THE RECESSION. IT SURVIVED DOUBLE DIGIT INFLATION IN AMERICA WITH A 300% INCREASE IN PRICE, STILL REMAINING ON TOP IN SALES.

THE 560SL MEETS AND GREETS ANY EXPECTATIONS AS A DAILY DRIVER AND IT IS WRITTEN (SL MARKET LETTER  ) .."THAT MOST OWNERSHIP IS LONGTERM" ON THESE GREAT CARS. THE 560SL MODEL ACTUALLY EXCEEDED THEIR ORIGINAL WINDOW STICKER VALUE 10-15 YEARS AGO UP TILL MERCEDES FINALLY OFFERED A SUITABLE REPLACEMENT IN QUALITY & STATURE IN 2001 . ADMITEDLY, DURING THE GREAT RECESSION IN AMERICA, THEY REACHED A POINT WHERE VALUE DID FINALLY ADJUST BUT, THEY ARE ON THE RISE AGAIN. WE FIND THIS IS DUE TO THE INCREASED ATTENTION FROM EUROPEAN BUYERS. NOW, WITH CHRYSLER TAKING OVER THESE OLDER MERCEDES-BENZ'S WILL FLOURISH IN VALUE AS "REAL" MERCEDES-BENZ(S). IT IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY THEM AGAIN  AS THEY WILL BE CONTINUE TO BE SOUGHT OUT BY COLLECTORS FROM ABROAD AS WELL AS ON OUR SHORES..
