1994 PORSCHE 911/ 964 "SPEEDSTER" CABRIOLET
WITH THE 'NEW' 2011 PORSCHE SPEEDSTER NOW RELEASED WITH A PRICE TAG STARTING AT $204,000 (AND RUMORED THE DEALERS WILL BE SELLING THEM JUST UNDER $300,000) THE ICONIC VINTAGE SPEEDSTERS (PRE '57, 89 AND '93-'94) HAVE TAKEN,YET ANOTHER, JUMP UPWARD IN VALUE. PORSCHE HAD PLANS TO BUILD 3,000 OF THESE CARS IN 1993 BUT, ENDED UP ONLY PRODUCING 936 FROM 1993 TITLED IN 1994. 14 OF THOSE WERE RIGHT-HAND-DRIVE AND 20 WERE TURBO-LOOK WIDEBODIES. MOST OF THEM STAYED IN GERMANY. ONLY 427 '94 SPEEDSTERS MADE IT TO OUR SHORES. (AND NOW THE GERMANS ARE TRYING TO BUY THEM BACK!). ALREADY OVER 17 YEARS OLD, THESE 'SPEEDSTERS' WOULD REPRESENT THE LAST OF THE LAST AIR-COOLED SPEEDSTERS, WITH FAR LESS BUILT THAN THE 1989 MODEL WHICH REACHED 2,065 (823 DESIGNATED U.S.). IT IS ALSO WRITTEN THAT ONE WAS BUILT IN GULF BLUE FOR JERRY SEINFELD. IT SOLD 'USED' IN SEPT.2009 FOR $101,200 AT THE BARRETT-JACKSON AUCTION. THE LAST SPEEDSTER BUILT HAD TO BE FINISHED BY THE PORSCHE FACTORY SONDERWINSCH PROGRAM BECAUSE THEY HAD ALREADY CLOSED SPEEDSTER PRODUCTION. IT WAS BUILT FOR KEVIN YEUNG OF HONG KONG. IT WOULD BE THE LAST ONE MADE (ON 11/2/93/ DELIVERED SEPT. 1994 )*.
MOST '94 SPEEDSTER'S CARRIED A LIST PRICE OF $66,400 PLUS OPTIONS ( MOST RAN
OUT THE DOOR BY THE TIME YOU ADDED A.C. AND RECAROS AT ABOUT $71-72,000 NEW) AND REPRESENTED THE LAST OF THE 964
CABRIOLETS. THE 90'S SPEEDSTERS WERE LIKE A CROSS BETWEEN THE CAB AND 911
CARERRA RS OFFERING AN EXTRA LIGHT BODY AND A FIXED POP-UP SPOILER. THEY WOULD
ALL BE FITTED WITH NOT ONLY A MUCH SMALLER , RAKED WINDSHIELD BUT, THE
TRADITIONAL "SPEEDSTER" SOFT TOP. THEY CARRIED THE 3.6 LITER SIX @ 247
B.H.P., HAD RACK AND PINION STEERING AND ALL HAD THE 5-SPOKE TURBO WHEELS
(205/50X17 TIRES IN FRONT AND 255/40X17 AT THE REAR). SAVING WEIGHT- THEY ALL
HAD "REAR SEAT DELETE" AND GOT CARPETED SEAT CAVITIES
INSTEAD. 1994 WOULD
BE THE FIRST YEAR FOR THE AUTO-CRUISE SYSTEM. THEY ARE
IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZABLE BY THE SAME HUMP BACK AND SHORTENED WINDSHIELD OF THEIR
OLDER 356 MODEL SISTER'S AND 911 BROTHERS.
THEIR COLLECTIBILITY IS NOW UNQUESTIONABLE. THE REINCARNATED 911 / 964 SERIES SPEEDSTER WAS ENTIRELY DIFFERENT THAN ANY OF IT'S PREDESESSOR'S AND "THE LAST OF THE AIR-COOLED SPEEDSTERS""

THOUGH PAINT CHOICES WERE LIMITED TO ONLY RED, WHITE OR BLACK (UNLESS YOU WERE A FAMOUS COMIC AND/OR MULTIPLE OWNER OF PORSCHES). THE "LIGHTWEIGHT" COCKPIT WAS USUALLY DRESSED UP CONSIDERABLY WITH SWATCHES OF COLOR CORRESPONDING TO THE BODY; THE GUAGE PANEL, SEAT BACKS , DOOR PULLS ( NO LEVERS) , CONSOLE, SOMETIMES SEATBELTS, GEARSHIFT LEVER AND BOOT WERE ALL BLESSED WITH A CORRESEPONDING SWATCH OF COLOR.
