THE
STORY:
The first of the last of the dying breed (the last 3 Healey's
were built 1968) went into production at Abingdon, England in
the Spring of 1959. A welcome addition after the engine "head
problems" of the 100/6, the first MK I 3000 Series had become
immediately known as the "He-Man's Car". Unlike the
later version (the MK III 3000) it was still known as a Real Sportscar.
No wind-up windows, no cushy Cadillac ride, no flip-up convertible
top, and most importantly, it was a true two-seater roadster.
Our
car is an early version with chassis number 3422 which would make
it the 3236th built (first sequence number on the BN-7 chassis
was0 186) Compared w/ the last of the 100/65 cars the 3000 series
exhibited few changes in the body. Under the skin the engine
was enlarged. It was much more powerful and had new front
disc brakes added. Compression was boosted to 9:0:1 and the power
output was upped to 124 at 4600 R.P.M. Overdrive was still optional
at this stage. On the outside, the car was virtually indistinguishable
from the 100/6 except for the badges. Wire Wheels were also an
option and very few were fitted with the optional hardtop (a prize,
if found). Maximum speed is 114 m.p.h.
This
car has undergone an extensive $51,000 Frame-Off Restoration and
Photos and Receipts await the new owner. This was an estate situation
where the car's restoration was started, the owner passed on and
his parents, dedicating the project to their son, finished the
car and showed it. It won top honors. If anyone has recently restored
a car you know it can be very expensive. Purchasing this car will
alleviate alot of pain to your wallet. There is nothing quite
like an Austin Healey. It's loud, raucous, rough riding and a
true, English Sportscar. Our car is virtually new but, not offered
to the penny pincher as she's priced about $5k over the evaluation
guides ( due to the restoration).REDUCED TO.... $30,900.
