THE STORY:

By 1967 Nancy Sinatra had already tread across your back with her White Go-Go Boots and her Top 40 Hit "These Boots Are Made For Walking" while Racquel Welch had exposed her elements in the movie "One Million Years BC" but, by 1967 you better get ready to "wear some flowers in your hair" and make a trip to Hippie Mecca San Francisco. The Flower Children and Psychedelic Sub-Culture had taken over. This year would be declared "The Summer of Love" and it would be marked by Outdoor Festivals in Monterey and Atlanta. Monterey City Fathers braced themselves for the worst only to be surprised by well-mannered, neatly groomed Flower Children milling peacefully around the Festival Grounds. All of the West Coasts Finest Artists would perform including Grateful Dead, Country Joe and The Fish, Big Brother and The Holding Co. (Janis Joplin), Quicksilver, Steve Miller Band and Jefferson Airplane. . Some people don't remember but, it also included The Who, Jimi Hendrix and The Isley Bros. This would be Jimi's 1st time back to the USA since 1966 and he fried the audience with a remarkable performance..closing by lighting fire to his guitar. Twiggy was the Hot Model, Black Lights and DayGlo Posters were The Rage, while "Cool Hand Luke" and "Bonnie & Clyde" swept the Box Office in the Nations Top Films. If you remember "Hair" you remember "Hair... Hair Everywhere". Dustin Hoffman would 'do' his girlfriends Mom (in "The Graduate") and "Laugh In" was the most popular TV Show Comedy. You might also have forgotten that Muhammad Ali refused the U.S. Draft and said; "No Viet Cong ever called me a Nigger" . He was rewarded by the World Boxing Association by stripping his title and fined $10,000 by the Federal Government and sentenced to jail for 5 years for his 'act'. The conviction was overturned by the Supreme Court a few years later. Mopar would issue the Road Runner in 1968 but, in 1967 The Hot Lick had to be the Dodge Coronet R/T.
Dodge's sales pitch was
" Advance and be recognized in Coronet R/T. There's no mistaking this one-of-a-kind cruiser when you see it on the street. The Coronet R/T models (hardtop and soft top) pack a new Dodge 440 c.i. 4-Barrel 440 Magnum V8 under the hood. It's standard equipment, your choice of (the hard-to-get) 4-on-the-floor or Torqueflite Automatic to handle the horses. Bucket seats, Special Air Scoop Hood, Red Streak Nylon Tires- all standard on the R/T ( and a big bundle more, besides)". My God, it sounds like I was writing the copy ! Even back then Chrysler-Dodge was offering a 50,000 miles warranty (12,000 mile on the Hemi) and their campaign spelled out "The Dodge Rebellion Wants You !", "Enter The Big Bore Hunter" and their "White Hat Special" ( where the dealerships played the Good Guy, wore White Hats and ordered cars with White Vinyl Tops). These cars have proven to have a devout following especially from former Blue Collar Guys Who Made It Big. The Dodge Coronet R/T (Road & Track). You just found one of the Nicest Ones In The Country .
