THE
STORY:
"Tricky Dickie",
and his sidekick Spirew Agnew, were going full-bore on the Political
Scene while Black Panther Activist Angela Davis was found innocent
of aiding a courtroom escape that left four people dead. Nixon
boosted his popularity back at home by harboring relations with
China and Russia while rumors of the Administrations involvement
in Watergate just started to surface. Jane Fonda was getting
Bad Press over her position on the Vietnam War, while Linda Lovelace
recieved lots of notororeity for her gag-able
performance in the "Deep Throat" X-Rated movie. Mark
Spitz achieved 'Gold'
Swimming in the Olympics while the "New
Sexual Revolution" was just getting underway- so, it was
no surprise 2,3000,000 cases of Gonorrhea were reported that year.
Airline Passengers started being 'screened' for the first
time due to increased Airline Hijacking, while women slowly gained
new rights through The Womens Liberation Movement (fronted
by Gloria Steinhem). George Wallace was shot in Laurel, Maryland
while Richard Nixon became the First President ever to
visit Russia. While the reality of the closing days of
the Vietnam War loomed people were watching TV Shows like "The
Bob Newhart Show", " The Rookies", "M*A*S*H*"
and "The Walton's". Musically, Top Albums were 'Chicago
V', 'American Pie' with Don McLean and 'America' by America. Top
singles included Roberta Flack's "If I Ever I See Your Face"
and Nillson's "Without You".
People tend to forget
but, by 1972 Ralph Nader had scared everyone to death with his
books about the hideous dangers of driving a Convertible (ex:
"Unsafe At Any Speed") and sales of all convertibles
plummeted. Hence, finding a 1972 "Anything"
in a Convertible can be difficult. It's one of those factoids
people just 'look past'. That fact alone helps makes them Very
Rare and Desirable. Especially Rare are any found in Big Block
variation. Perhaps you can relate to: 2,252,892 Chevrolet's built
in 1972: 28,647 were Chevelles in all body styles, only 4,853
were Convertibles! Then breakout the records that show: 70
were built as 454 Cubic Inch V8's (27 of those were 4-Speeds).
The majority were Small Blocks and only 93 (
that's right, NINETY THREE) carried the 402 cubic inch
version (formally dubbed: 396). Then, break it down to 17
Four-Speeds and 51 Automatics, the rest were 3-speeds.
Then, you hone it down to Super Sports with the ZL-2 Hood
option and a Four Speed and the count is SEVEN without
the Hood Option- it would be 10. Perhaps, it's easier now to relate
to why so few are ever seen for sale. Our car has
the extra bonus of 'bucket seat delete' BENCH SEATS so, you could
over-puff- it and say : this could be ONE OF ONE.
Built in Baltimore
Maryland, it was sold new by Keyser Chevrolet in Lansdale, PA.
Restored completely in1995, it moved to Arkansas, and then to
Michigan. We sold it 7 years ago to Georgia and then 5 years ago
to FL. It comes complete with Owners Manual, Consumer Info Packet,
original Key Punch-outs and the Original Window Sticker. In closing,
the 1972 model still retains the same body characteristics of
the 1970 and 1971 model Chevelles which are now fetching Six Figures.
This car offers Rarity, Documentation and Desirability-
all good reasons to Invest In The Best !
